First of all let's have a look at the energy required for a single network transaction.

So, at your next dinner party you can mention some of these fun facts based upon our measurements.

A regular **AA Battery** with 0.00444 kWh (2.96Ah with 1.5V) capacity could power **17,760 SafeCoin transactions,** almost 6 Solana transactions, and 3 VISA transactions. Yet, for a single Bitcoin transaction, one would need at least 334,213 batteries.

 Moving money globally

The **232.5 billion VISA transactions per year** equate to more than **$2.7 billion USD in costs** at the average price of Electricity for industrial usage in the US (7.83$/kWh). With SafeCoin, this would only cost $455 million per year while with Bitcoin, one would need 12x the world's total electricity consumption to acheive this.

Assuming the equivalent of **0.85 pounds of CO2 emissions per kWh** (eia.gov), yearly VISA transactions contribute to about **146 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions** – equal to the 2020 traffic sector in Germany. By using SafeCoin, one could **reduce CO2 emissions by more than 98%!**

 ### Metering setup: How do we measure?

Running between 2000-3000 TPS at an average of 2800 TPS and measuring the power draw from a validator supporting the network. The average power during the test was determined to be approximately 56W. Solana's network runs at an average of 2000 TPS and has a baseline power draw of 1000W. From the initial tests, we can confirm SafeCoin has an energy efficiency of **approximately 0.00000025 kWh/txn compared to Solana at 0.000752 kWh/txn**. This makes SafeCoin the world's most energy efficient blockchain.

**A quick basic rundown from our first test (much more data is coming):**

**Units:**
 Watts - *W* | Joules - *J* | Transaction - *TXN* | Transactions per second - *TPS* | Kilowatt-hour - *kWh*

56 W = 56 J/s
 (56 J/s) / 2800 TPS = 0.02 J/TXN per validator

**Our network currently consists of 45 active validators, so:**

45 validators \* 0.02 J/TXN per validator = 0.9 J/TXN for the entire SafeCoin network.***\*\****
 1 kWh = 3600000 J
 (0.9J/TXN) / (3600000 J/kWh) = 0.00000025 kWh/TXN

***\*\*Note:** These tests were conducted on an inefficient desktop whereas most of the active validators supporting the network run on servers which would likely reduce the energy consumptions even further.*
